Mark Vellacott MBA MSc CEng FRAeS
Managing Director

Mr. Vellacott has an impressive record in the aerospace industry and brings a depth of experience and skill to the management team. Prior to joining Structural Monitoring Systems, Mr Vellacott was the Technical Director for the Asia Pacific Space Centre project, based in Sydney.

Mr Vellacott has had 21 years experience with British Aerospace and subsequently BAE SYSTEMS in the areas of Military Aircraft and Corporate Development. From 1998 – 2001 Mr Vellacott was Head of Engineering Technology at BAE SYSTEMS Australia, responsible for managing the company’s technology acquisition programs including operation of the Technology Board.

During his time with BAE SYSTEMS Australia, Mr Vellacott represented BAE SYSTEMS as Chairman of the Board and President of the Electronic Industry Association, and served on a number of technology based Advisory Boards. He was elected as a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2001, and is a Chartered Engineer. Mr Vellacott holds a B.Sc in Aeronautical Engineering, an M.Sc in Systems Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration.

 

Air Marshal Sir John Walker KCB, CBE, AFC, FRAeS
Non Executive Chairman

Former Air Marshal who retired after a 41 year distinguished career with the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom . He held a number of commands both in the United Kingdom and abroad and prior to retirement he was Chief of Defence Intelligence and Deputy Chairman of the national Joint Intelligence Committee. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Bath early in 1992 and was selected a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society later that year.

More recently he was a Special Advisor to the House of Commons Defence Committee. He is the author of three books and has written for the technical press specialising in Air Power, Command and Leadership. He provides SMS with important expertise in relation to the development of the military applications of the Company's technology.

 

Professor Malcolm R Richmond Bsc (HONS), BCom

Professor Richmond is Professorial Fellow at the University of Western Australia, jointly to the Business School and Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics – his special interests include corporate strategy, technology management, entrepreneurship and innovation and commercialisation of research and development.

Prior to this appointment, Professor Richmond spent 30 years with the Rio Tinto and CRA Groups including the position of Managing Director of Research and Development and Vice President Strategy and Acquisitions.  Immediately prior to his retirement he held the position of Managing Director Development of Hamersley Iron Pty Limited, Deputy Chairman of the Australian Minerals Industry Research Council, Vice President of the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy, Non-Executive Director of Amdel Limited and Non-Executive Director of Hismelt Corporation (Australia’s single largest research project). 

Currently he holds a number of posts: Non-Executive Director of Magnesium International Ltd, and Safe Effect Pty Ltd.  Professor Richmond is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology, Science and Engineering, Australian Institute of Company Directors and an ex-Chairman of both The Resources Institute of Western Australia and Territory Iron Pty Ltd.

 

Robin John Dean B.Ec
Non Executive Director

Mr Dean has extensive experience in management, corporate and investment banking having held the position as the Head of Project Finance at Bankwest from 1989 to 1995. Mr Dean was also Chief Executive of St Barbara Mines from 1995 to 1997. At that time the company was a successful Australian gold miner with a market capitalisation of in excess of $250 million and 300 employees. Mr Dean has also held prior corporate finance positions with Westchester Corporate Finance and Westpac Banking Corporation. Mr Dean is primarily responsibility for the day to day management of the Company as well as the execution of strategy and the commercialisation of the CVM TM technology. Mr Dean holds a Bachelor of e conomics from University of Western Australia , Perth.

 

Dr Rosalind V Dubs, BSc(Hons), Dr ès Sc, FAICD

Dr Rosalind Dubs is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Relations) of the University of Technology Sydney, responsible for driving external engagement with business, industry and government. 

Dr Dubs has wide-ranging commercial and international experience in both private and public sectors.  During 16 years in business, she specialised in the management of large engineering organisations.  As part of electronics multinational Thales SA, she was the Paris-based Vice-President Operations of its world-leading air traffic management business, and Managing Director of its aviation navaids business line in Stuttgart, Germany.  Most recently Director of Electronic Systems with Thales joint venture company ADI Limited, Dr Dubs’ earlier career included senior executive positions in Airservices Australia, the Civil Aviation Authority and CSIRO.

Her special interests include product industrialisation and supply chain management.  Dr Dubs is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
